Perhaps the best known and certainly the most spectacular fountain in Rome. Built into the facade of the Palazzo Poli, it was commissioned from Nicola Salvi (1762) by Clement XII. Inspired, it seems, by a drawing of Bernini's, it is a fantastic architectural scene, dominated from above by the central niche with the Statue of Neptune in a chariot drawn by sea horses and driven by two tritons, by P. Bracci. |

In the left niche, the Statue of Abundance and to the right the Statue of
Salubrity, both works by F. Valle. The exuberance of the water, splashing down the central
rocks, and over the side ones, is an ,unforgettable sight. |
